MTI Offers COVID-19 Student Emergency Financial Aid Grant (CARES Act)

McDougle Technical Institute is aware that many students are struggling financially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud to announce the establishment of a COVID-19 Student Emergency Financial Aid Grant (CARES Act) designed to help students who find themselves financially impacted. This grant, funded by the CARES Act, will be awarded to help students having a temporary financial crisis resulting from COVID-19 so that they may remain enrolled at McDougle Technical Institute, continue their education and work toward graduation.

McDougle Technical Institute will distribute $250.00 emergency financial aid grants to all eligible students who were actively enrolled on May 1, 2020.  Students who are still attending classes or enrolled after May 1, 2020 may apply for the emergency need-based grant. The maximum amount of the emergency need-based grant shall not exceed $1,500.00, to be disbursed in $250.00 monthly payments while the student is actively enrolled and eligible.

In order for a student to be considered for a need-based grant, students must

1. Must apply for an emergency need-based grant.

2. Be an actively enrolled eligible student

3. Demonstrate that they have incurred expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus.

4. Have an unmet financial need.

5. Maintain satisfactory academic progress (80%) and satisfactory attendance progress (90%).

Students interested in applying should visit www.mti.edu/caresact to complete the application. The grant can be used to help students with food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare.

There is no minimum dollar amount. The committee will consider the information to be provided on the student’s grant application as well as information already on record with the Institute such as the student’s dependency status, family size, expected family contribution, unmet financial need, program length, satisfactory academic progress, attendance, and expected completion date.

Students receiving grant money will have the funds mailed to their current address or they can pick them up at the campus.

We look forward to receiving your applications and being able to help our students continue to persevere during these challenging times to achieve their educational goals.

Funds are limited and will be dispersed on a first-come, first-served basis

COVID-19 Update 03/14/2020

McDougle Technical Institute wants its students to stay healthy and take preventative action against the coronavirus.  Given the most recent information related to COVID-19 (coronavirus) and its impact on the tri-county area, McDougle Technical Institute will close the student salon and student dormitory until March 30, 2020.

We want to take every precaution to ensure that we do our part to keep everyone healthy, so during this time, all classes will be online.  MTI will continue to remain operational and continue to provide student services so long as it is safe and based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, the Florida Department of Health and local health agencies.

Further details will be forthcoming regarding times when on campus classes will resume.

The health and well-being of our students, staff and community is our top priority, and we will continue to make proactive decisions that have everyone’s best interest in mind. No matter how long this lasts, we plan to continue to disinfect and clean the campus and high touch spaces and provide you with the quality education you have come to expect from MTI.

Please continue to monitor our McDougle Technical Institute website at mti.edu/COVID19 for official updates.

COVID-19 Update 03/13/20202

Good morning MTI Family,

At McDougle Technical Institute the health and safety of you, our students, employees and our communities are always our top priority.

While the cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) are currently minimal in our area, we want to assure you that we are closely monitoring the situation and implementing precautions consistent with guidance from the CDC and WHO, and it’s possible impact on our school community.

As of this time, classes are set to continue as scheduled however the school salon will be closed to the public until further notice.

As we review the guidance shared by government health officials around the world and while the situation remains dynamic, as of today, the CDC has placed five (5) countries on Level 2 or Level 3 travel alerts:

The CDC has recommended travel restrictions for the following locations:

  • China, Iran, Italy, Japan, and South Korea.
This list will be updated here as locations are added or removed as areas of concern. We are using the following CDC website to obtain the most current updates: Visit: CDC.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/

  • CDC guidelines for travelers returning to the United States from these countries currently states, “travelers should stay home for 14 days after returning to the United States and practice social distancing.” Please know that self-quarantine would apply to students and employees in our community and include staying home from school and work.

  • We are eager to help any students in quarantine circumstances with distance learning.

If you or your family have recently traveled to any of the countries on the restricted list and:

  • Have a fever, cough and/or difficulty breathing:
Call your doctor immediately and do not come to school (MTI should be notified of your absence). You will be asked to provide medical clearance from your doctor before you may return to school.

  • Have NO symptoms:
Please notify MTI to discuss the best plan to ensure that you are cleared to return to class.

If you or a family member made the decision to travel to one of the aforementioned countries or via cruise ship, we ask that you self-report to MTI to plan for a safe return to school.

We will continue to monitor this situation, and post updates on the steps we are taking to protect you and how you can protect yourself on myMTI.mti.edu and via email when necessary.

PLEASE take simple preventive measures, as recommended by health officials.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. McDougle at info@mti.edu.

Regards,

Mrs. Octavia McDougle
