The objective of the Physical Therapy Assistant program is to prepare students to thrive in the field of Physical Therapy by providing the skills, tools, and training necessary for a promising career with the following goals:

a. Communicate and collaborate within the healthcare environment and with members of the community.

b. Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and attitudes reflective of an entry level Physical Therapist Assistant.

c. Exhibit professional and ethical behaviors consistent with the scope of practice of a PTA.

d. Explore contemporary practice to develop commitment to lifelong learning.

Program Description

Students enrolled in the Physical Therapy program will undergo a rigorous 64 credit hour program that will explore Physical Therapy Assistant basics, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, therapeutic exercise, and other courses in order to provide the future therapist the skills and ability to thrive in this exciting career. The length of this program is approximately 20 months (this will vary if a student transfers in credits).

Each course in the Physical Therapist Assistant major is a prerequisite for the subsequent course and therefore must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher to proceed successfully through the program. Learning will take place in a classroom format so that students experience both online learning to enhance their technology skills and to interact among peers in a team-based learning environment. Each graduating student will receive assistance from the employment services team in identifying job opportunities in this field. This course is intended to prepare students for entry-level positions.

Admissions

Students may enroll in all classes with a high school diploma, GED or by passing a Wonderlic Basic Skills Test. High School Students may enroll with permission, in writing, from the secondary school in which they are enrolled. At the time of enrollment in the Program, be prepared to submit the following items:

  • Submit identification and/or proof of age documents (Driver’s License, Passport, Student ID, Birth Certificate)

  • Social Security Card (Students may still enroll without a SS# but a SS# is required for licensure)

  • Submit High School Diploma, GED or Schedule ATB test ($25 Testing Fee must be paid prior to enrollment)
